Avago Technologies (NASDAQ: AVGO) is a supplier of analog interface components for wireless, wireline, and industrial applications. The company was formed in 2005 as a private spinoff of Agilent Semiconductor Products Group (which was, in turn, spun out of Hewlett-Packard in 1999). By leveraging its core competencies in III-V compound and silicon semiconductor design and processing, Avago provides a range of analog, mixed-signal, and optoelectronics components and subsystems to approximately 40,000 end customers. The company’s products serve four end markets: wireless communications, wired infrastructure, industrial, and automotive electronics. With a team of over 2000 design and product engineers, Avago maintains design and product-development resources around the world. Its intellectual-property portfolio includes approximately 4700 US and foreign patents and patent applications.


Hock E. Tan, President and Chief Executive Office


Hock Tan has served as Avago Technologies’ President, Chief Executive Officer, and a director since March 2006. From September 2005 to January 2008, he also served as Chairman of the Board of Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT). Previously, Tan was President and Chief Executive Officer of Integrated Circuit Systems, Inc. (ICS) from June 1999 to September 2005. Before his stint at ICS, he was Vice President of Finance with Commodore International Ltd. from 1992 to 1994. In his career, Tan also held senior-management positions with PepsiCo, Inc. and General Motors Corp. He served as Managing Director of Pacven Investment Ltd., a venture capital fund in Singapore from 1988 to 1992, and served as Managing Director for Hume Industries Ltd. in Malaysia from 1983 to 1988.
