National Instruments

In 1986, James Truchard and Jeff Kodosky invented the NI LabVIEW system design software. With LabVIEW, engineers and scientists use graphical system design to build solutions that require measurement and control applications. Today, graphical system design offers a productive software and reconfigurable hardware platform along with a rapidly growing ecosystem of IP and applications.

From designing medical devices to researching new methods for energy production, the more than 35,000 NI customers worldwide represent a variety of industries ranging from test and measurement to academic and embedded. The company's long-term vision and focus on improving society through its technology supports the success of its customers, employees, suppliers, and shareholders. NI has seen 33 years of growth in its 35-year history. It also has been recognized as one of the top 25 "World's Best Multinational Workplaces" by the Great Place to Work Institute.

Dr. James Truchard – President, CEO, and Co-founder

Dr. James Truchard, National Instruments President and CEO, co-founded the company in 1976 while working at the University of Texas at Austin. Under Truchard's leadership, NI has developed virtual instrumentation software, including NI LabVIEW, and modular hardware that has revolutionized the way that engineers design and develop test, measurement, and automation applications. Today, Truchard leads the graphical system design vision that expands virtual instrumentation to encompass embedded systems. In 2003, he was inducted into the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. Truchard was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2007. He holds a doctorate in electrical engineering as well as bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physics—all from the University of Texas at Austin.
