A line of multilayer ceramic capacitors promises high reliability in space-level applications.
Promising to deliver capacitance-voltage (CV) capabilities superior to those of conventional precious-metal-electrode (PME) multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), a new line of base-metal-electrode (BME) MLCCs has been developed for space-level applications. The capacitors, which are qualified to EPPL II (ESCC 3009), are X7R dielectric MLCCs. They provide higher capacitances in smaller cases than other capacitors, with the high reliability needed for space-level use. These surface-mount BME MLCCs feature Sn/Pb plating with the firm’s Flexiterm™ terminations for enhanced resistance to mechanical stress. The capacitors are qualified on the European Preferred Parts List (EPPL II) of the European Space Association (ESA) under the criteria of the European Space Components Coordination’s (ESCC’s) specification 3009. They are rated for voltages of 16 to 100 VDC and capacitances from 2.2 nF to 8.2 μF and capacitance tolerances of ±5%, ±10%, and ±20%, and supplied in case sizes from 0603 to 1812.
