Editorial Guidelines Submitting an outline for a technical article Before sending a full-length article, please submit a one-page outline or proposal of your article to the Editor. Our Editor-in-Chief or one of his senior-level editors will review your outline within a week or two and advise you of any suggestions for changes or revisions. Article format Technical articles in Microwaves & RF are typically 1200 to 3500 words in length, with a ratio of about one graphic element (artwork, charts, or figures) per 400 words of text. Article text should be supplied as a Microsoft Word file, with graphic elements supplied as separate TIF, GIF, JPEG, or BMP files. For convenience in transporting files, the text and graphic files can be archived as WINZIP files. Graphic elements should have a resolution of at least 300 dots per inch (dpi). Publishing procedure If your outline has been approved, you will be asked to submit the entire article. You should submit the article 90 days prior to the time you would like to see it appear in our magazine (for example, an article targeted for the December issue should reach the offices of Microwaves & RF by early September. Within 30 days of receipt of the article, the Editor will decide whether or not to accept it for publication. If he accepts the article, we will notify you in which issue it is scheduled to appear, and inform you of the editing schedule and deadline. After the article is edited, you will be required to sign and return a copyright form. By signing this form, you certify that you have given us exclusive permission to publish the article, and that you have not submitted the article to any other publication. It should be noted that all authors receive a prepress proof for their review, at which time they will be asked to make final changes based on the Microwaves & RF edited version of their article. For further information on the publishing procedure, please contact Judith Kollarik, Penton Technology & Lifestyle Media, 45 Eisenhower Drive, 5th floor, Paramus, NJ 07652; (201) 845-2427. Product Technology The procedure for publishing Product Technology articles is similar to that for contributed Design Features, with the exception that, in most cases, Product Technology articles are written by the staff of Microwaves & RF. Product Technology proposals should also be submitted as a one-page abstract or proposal, or as a complete data sheet for the product to be published. The submission should be made approximately 90 days before the issue data of interest, so that Microwaves & RF's editors can plan content for each issue accordingly. Once a Product Technology proposal or data sheet has been submitted, you will be notified within 30 days whether or not it has been accepted for publication. As with Design Features, a company represented in a Product Feature will receive a prepress proof for their review, at which time they will be asked to make final changes.
