Hybrid GaAs Amps Boost CATV Systems

Jan. 10, 2013
A pair of hybrid amplifiers boost signals to 1 GHz in CATV HFC distribution systems.

Two hybrid GaAs amplifiers developed by ANADIGICS and supplied by Richardson RFPD are well suited for use as line extenders in cable-television (CATV) hybrid-fiber-coaxial (HFC) distribution systems. Each amplifier consists of two pairs of parallel amplifiers optimized for low noise figure and distortion, with input and output transient voltage protection as well as electrostatic-discharge (ESD) protection; both are housed in SOT-115J packages. Model ACA2786 delivers 25-dB gain from 40 MHz to 1 GHz with gain flatness within 0.5 dB. It draws 430 mA current at +24 VDC and features composite-triple-beat (CTB) and composite-second-order (CSO) performance levels of -70 dBc or better. Model ACA2788 provides 28-dB gain from 40 MHz to 1 GHz with gain flatness within 0.5 dB. It also has CTB and CSO performance levels of -70 dBc or better and requires 430 mA at +24 VDC.
