Power Amp Drives 2 To 6 GHz

A flange-mounted MMIC amplifier generates 10 W output power from 2 to 6 GHz.

The two-stage power amplifier model MAAP-010169 delivers 10 W output power from 2 to 6 GHz with 18-dB linear gain. The monolithic-microwave-integrated-circuit (MMIC) amplifier is supplied in a 10-lead, ceramic-flange-mount package and is RoHS compliant. Based on a gallium-arsenide (GaAs) pseudomorphic-high-electron-mobility-transistor (pHEMT) semiconductor process, the amplifier achieves output power of typically +38 dBm at 1-dB compression and typically +40 dBm at saturation, with 30% power-added efficiency (PAE) at saturation. It operates with typical input and output return losses of 8 and 10 dB, respectively. The 50-Ω amplifier draws 3.5 A from a +10-VDC supply. It is rated for maximum input power of +26 dBm and operating temperatures from -40 to +125°C.
