Economical TWTAs Boost 7.5 To 18.0 GHz

The TR family of traveling-wave-tube amplifiers (TWTAs) from AR RF/Microwave Instrumentation provide low-cost solutions for broadband signal amplification. The product line includes rack-mount units providing as much as 300 W output power over frequency bands of 1.0 to 2.5 GHz, 2.5 to 7.5 GHz, 7.5 to 18.0 GHz, and 4.0 to 8.0 GHz. For example, model 300TR7z5G18 is a forced-air-cooled TWTA that operates from 7.5 to 18.0 GHz. It provides at least 285 W output power from 7.5 to 8.0 GHz and 300 W output power from 8.0 to 18.0 GHz. It includes a gain adjustment range of 35 dB and achieves at least 55-dB gain at the maximum gain setting. An input signal level of 1 mW is required to reach the maximum output setting. The 50-Ohm amplifier weighs 85 lbs (39 kg).
