Precision Thick-Film Resistors Target Consumer Applications

Consumer electronics are increasingly demanding precision resistors. However, the heat generated on the densely packed circuit boards found in such products created challenges for designers. This problem can potentially be tackled by resistors with precision tolerance and ultra-low temperature coefficient characteristics, which are available mostly in existing thin-film resistors. With precision tolerances and ultra-low temperature coefficients, for example, the RE precision thick-film resistors were designed to deliver reliability and high performance in precision end products. Their resistance range is 10 Ω to 1 MΩ (E24/E96) with ±1/±0.5 percent tolerances. The resistors come in four SMT sizes: 0402, 0603, 0805, and 1206. Backed by proprietary materials and process technology, they vow to deliver performance that is comparable to their thin-film counterparts. In comparison with the firm's own RC series, for instance, these thick-film resistors have a significantly lower temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) to ±50 ppm/°C while raising the precision to tolerance ratio to 0.5 percent.
