AVX Corp. has developed a series of ultrathin ceramic capacitors for applications requiring a low profile. The UT series capacitors offer the same footprint as 0402 capacitors, but are only as thick as conventional 0201 capacitors. The new capacitors retain the same voltage and capacitance ratings as standard 0402 capacitors. Parts can be produced that measure just 0.3-mm high with a capacitance value of 10 nF and voltage ratings to 25 V.
According to Radim Uher, AVX Product Marketing Manager, "Our customers have recognized the dimensional benefits that our patented termination process brings. These new ultrathin ceramic capacitors suit applications anywhere the thickness of components is a major hurdle in the design."
