Gain Blocks Boost 40 To 6000 MHz

A trio of monolithic-microwave-integrated-circuit (MMIC) gain blocks from Avago Technologies provides low-noise, high-linearity amplification for applications from 40 to 6000 MHz. The MGA-30x89 series includes the model MGA-30789 for use from 40 to 2600 MHz, model MGA-30889, for 40 to 2600 MHz, and model 30989, for 2 to 6 GHz. MGA-30789 offers 11.8-dB gain, 3.5-dB noise figure, +24.5-dBm output power at 1-dB compression, and +40-dBm output third-order intercept point at 3500 MHz. Model MGA-30889 provides 15.5-dB gain, 2.1-dB noise figure, +20.0-dBm output power at 1-dB compression, and +37-dBm output third-order intercept point at 900 MHz. Model MGA-30989 delivers 12.4-dB gain, 2.0-dB noise figure, +22.0-dBm output power at 1-dB compression, and +36-dBm output third-order intercept point at 3500 MHz. The GaAs E-pHEMT amplifiers are designed for use with a single, fixed +5-VDC supply. The amplifiers are supplied in an industry-standard SOT-89 package measuring 4.5 x 4.1 x 1.5 mm, which includes temperature-compensated internal bias circuit. The devices are matched to 50 Ohms and require no additional matching components.
