OTTAWA, ON AND MONTREAL, QC, CANADA—Canada’s Telecommunications Hall of Fame announced that it will confer its Career Service Award on Dr. Gilles Y. Delisle, ing., P.Eng., a telecommunications engineer and educator who has devoted more than three decades to sharing his expertise with students in Quebec and eastern Ontario and the developing world. Dr. Delisle, currently vice president of research at the Montreal-based International Institute of Telecommunications, is being honored at the 2007 Telecom Laureate Awards gala dinner and Hall of Fame induction ceremonies on October 16th at Windsor Station in Montreal.

Prior to joining the IIT, Dr. Delisle enjoyed a lengthy career as an educator in the field of telecommunications engineering in Quebec and Eastern Ontario, most recently as the director and professor at the School of Information Technology and Engineering at the University of Ottawa from 2002 to 2004.

SMYRNA, GA—Murata Electronics North America, a supplier of ceramic passive components, announced that it has selected Avnet Electronics to receive the company’s Corporate Award for 2006. Hideo Sakamoto, president and John Denslinger, executive vice president (both of Murata Electronics North America) presented the award to Phil Gallagher, president of Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas, at that company’s headquarters in Phoenix, AZ. Avnet was selected out of all of Murata’s North American distributors based on their continued sales expansion and outstanding contribution to Murata.

HILLSBORO, OR—TriQuint Semiconductor, a manufacturer of wireless products, announced that its chairman of the board, Steve Sharp, will take over as chairperson of the Oregon Council of AeA (formerly American Electronics Association) for a two-year term beginning this month. Sharp has served as vice-chair of the Oregon Council since 2005. He succeeds current council chair Robert DeKoning, CEO of Routeware in Beaverton, OR.

SAN ANTONIO, TX—C. Nils Smith, assistant vice president of the Signal Exploitation and Geolocation Division at Southwest Research Institute (SwRI), has been selected as Engineering Manager of the Year by the Engineering Management Society of the IEEE.
