Entering its 12th year, the Wireless Systems Design Conference & Expo, scheduled for March 8-10, 2004 in the San Diego Convention Center, offers a three-day snapshot of the latest developments in wireless technologies and applications. For example, several technical presentations examine ultrawideband (UWB) technology and its impact on existing wireless technologies. In a talk entitled "Understanding and Using Ultra Wideband (UWB), Jon Adams, Director of Radio Technology for the Radio Products Division of Motorola's Semiconductor Products Sector compares UWB to Bluetooth and other established wireless communications formats and explores its possible benefits over existing wireless communications technologies.

The Wireless Systems Design Conference & Expo features two Keynote Speakers in 2004: Dr. Henry Samueli, Co-Founder and Chairman of Broadcom Corp., and Dr. Ronald E. Reedy, Founder, Vice President & CTO of Peregrine Semiconductor. Dr. Samueli who has serves as the company's CTO since 1991, plans to explore the many present and future uses for wireless technology in his talk "Wireless in Everything: Life in a Fully Connected World" scheduled for Monday, March 8th. Dr. Reedy, with more than 30 years of experience in semiconductor research and development, founded Peregrine in 1990. His presentation, "Managing Mil/Space and Commercial Business in RFICs," scheduled for Tuesday, March 9th, will address the challenges of designing and developing high-performance and cost-effective integrated circuits in today's demanding markets.

A special awards dinner ceremony on the evening of Tuesday, March 9th, will celebrate the 15 winners of Microwaves & RF magazine's Top Products of 2003, along with the 2004 Industry Awards presented by the editors of Wireless Systems Design magazine. In addition to the technical conference and exhibits, the Wireless Systems Design Conference & Expo offers its first "Design Wars" competition, open to all exhibitors and attendees. Contestants (singly or in pairs) will be given a design kit and required to build a device which they will then use to track down a secret location on the show floor. Winners will receive a $100 gift certificate and a free pass to the 2005 Wireless Systems Design Conference & Expo, also in San Diego, CA.

To reserve a slot in the Design Wars, send an e-mail to the organizer, Cheryl Ajluni, at mailto:[email protected].
