Module Boosts WLAN Signals

Feb. 7, 2014
A compact module provides amplification and switching for 5-GHz WLAN systems.

Model SKY85702-11 is a 5-GHz front-end module (FEM) suitable for IEEE 802.11n/ac wireless-local-area-network (WLAN) applications. It incorporates a 5-GHz power amplifier, harmonic filter, and 5-GHz single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) switch and operates from a single supply at +3.6 VDC. An enable/disable function helps save power when the FEM is in power-down mode. The unit includes a power detector with 20-dB dynamic range to provide closed-loop power. It features impedance-matched input and output ports for ease of integration into WLAN systems and delivers 28-dB transmit gain with +19-dBm output power at 3% error vector magnitude (EVM) with a 64-state quadrature-amplitude-modulation (64QAM) signal at 54 Mb/s. The FEM is supplied in a 16-pin quad-flat-no-lead (QFN) package measuring 2.5 × 2.5 mm.
