Citing a rapidly growing market for cellular handset devices, integrated-circuit (IC) supplier RF Micro Devices (Greensboro, NC) announced the opening of a new sales and customer-support office in Shenzhen, China. The office will focus on local Chinese manufacturers, original design manufacturers (ODMs), and international original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with operations in China. The Chinese Ministry of Information estimates current mobile-telephone subscribers in China has passed the 300-million mark and will reach 350 million by the end of 2004. According to Paul Liang, Senior Sales Manager for RF Micro Devices, "as the world's largest market for mobile phones and a major center for handset design and manufacturing, China represents a substantial long-term growth opportunity for RFMD." The company also has sales and customer-support facilities in Beijing, Taiwan, Korea, and Japan, with test and automated-assembly facilities also in Beijing. RF Micro Devices designs and supplies a variety of RF ICs targeted at RF and microwave applications, including cellular radios, wireless-local-area-network cards and nodes, cable television (CATV) systems, and Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers.
