Often, the design of algorithm-intensive electronic and communications systems begins with MATLAB. Yet the MATLAB algorithms eventually need to be converted into C code for integration into the final product. Doing this conversion manually can take anywhere from days to weeks while potentially introducing design errors. Now, MATLAB Coder allows design engineers to automatically generate readable, portable C and C++ code directly from their MATLAB algorithms. MATLAB Coder supports a subset of core MATLAB language features including program control constructs, functions, and matrix operations. It can generate MEX functions that let designers accelerate computationally intensive portions of MATLAB code and verify the behavior of the generated code. It also supports hundreds of operators, functions, and system objects including algorithms for digital-signal-processing (DSP) and communications.

Two additional new tools, Simulink Coder and Embedded Coder, vow to simplify code generation for Simulink and Stateflow users by combining capabilities that were previously available in multiple offerings. These products incorporate the Real-Time Workshop technology. They also offer code-generation support for rapid prototyping, real-time testing, and production embedded-systems implementation with built-in links to embedded development environments. MATLAB Coder is available immediately starting at $6500.
