San Francisco MTT-S Will Draw Crowds

It doesn't take a genius or prescience to predict that the upcoming
IEEE Microwave Theory & Techniques Symposium (MTT-S,
http://news.mwrf.com/t?ctl=2922A:49027F should draw record crowds this June. For one
thing, business has been fairly stable in both commercial and military
markets, making the investment in attending technical presentations or
in setting up an exhibit booth less of a strain than during more
trying times. For another, the site (Moscone Center in downtown San
Francisco) is a natural for a conference like this one: a major
portion of this industry in this country--its suppliers and their
customers-can be found in the stretch of real estate extending north
from the Mexican border to the northern outskirts of Santa Rosa, CA
(apologies to those of you in Oregon and Washington). The City By The
Bay is a central location for these firms to gather and swap lies.

Perhaps the major reason that this show will be well attended,
however, is because of where the next show will be held (Hawaii). This
year's show is accessible for most, even those coming from the Far
East. That may not be the case for next year's show. Exhibitors will
at least have to consider the costs of sending booths and people to a
site more associated with vacations than conventions. In any case,
look for me in San Francisco and we'll continue this discussion....

Study Suggests Caution Concerning IEEE 802.11n

The highest-performance version of the IEEE's
wireless-local-area-network (WLAN) standard, 802.11n, may offer too
many options and interpretations to guarantee complete
interoperability of products. This warning comes from the latest
report on EEE 802.11n, from ABI Research (Oyster Bay, NY). The report,
"Next-Generation Wi-Fi: 802.11n-Chipsets, Technologies and Market
Drivers," notes that because of the levels of interpretation possible
with the new specification, consumers and business users should be
wary about their purchases, until final ratification of the standard,
expected sometime in 2007.

Times Microwave To Launch Rotating Connector At MTT-S

Times Microwave Systems (Wallingford, CT), a leading supplier of
high-performance cables and cable assemblies, will be setting the
coaxial connector world in motion at the upcoming Microwave Theory &
Techniques Symposium (MTT-S) this June in San Francisco with the
announcement of the industry's first microwave connector with full
rotation. The connector provides frequency coverage of DC to 18 GHz
with 360-deg. The company also will be debuting a range of
self-releasing, size 8 coaxial contacts. These DC to 18-GHz contacts
can be inserted and removed from all standard MIL-C-38999 shells
without installation or removal tools.

Software Assists Clock Jitter Analysis

Agilent Technologies has released precision clock-jitter-analysis
software for data-independent clock-jitter evaluation in advanced
digital communications systems and high-speed clock sources. Designed
to work with the company's Signal Source Analyzer, the new software
provides measurements with femtosecond resolution on both random and
periodic jitter types. The analyzer, which is available for
measurements to 7 GHz or 26.5 GHz, performs real-time jitter spectrum
analysis in bandwidths from 1 Hz to 40 MHz. The software's precise
periodic-jitter extraction and random-jitter/periodic-jitter
separation provide clearer insights into clock jitter characteristics
with information in time and frequency domains.

Rogers Recognized At Del Mar Electronics Show

Rogers Corporation was one of two companies receiving awards for
innovative products at The Del Mar Electronics Show this past April.
The company's RO4450B-dx Bondply circuit-board material, the
high-fill/flow version of the firm's popular RO4450B material. Part of
Rogers' RO4000 family of materials, the new material offers superior
high-frequency performance, but can be processed like standard FR4
material. The other winner was P. KAY Metal.
