Aeroflex has added radio channel fading capability to its 6401 AIME third-generation (3G) mobile communications protocol test system. The fading capability provides as many as eight fading paths for each of three available Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) carriers, supporting the emulation of multipath fading with a variety of models. Fading models include constant, Rayleigh, Doppler, Periodic, and log-normal/constant behavior. When equipped with the fading capability, the test system satisfies all of the current 3GPP R and protocol conformance test radio channel profiles and allows users to customize their own profiles.
