UL1449 Surge Protection Solutions - Lightning surge protection tutorial:  Protection of equipment from lighting and electrical fast transients is a critical step in the system design process. Surge Protective devices play a key role in diverting dangerous transients away from sensitive electronics. This improves long term reliability and protects against fire, shock, and explosion. UL1449 is the overall standard for surge protective devices whether they be in discrete component, module, or hybrid form. The standard describes the test methods for proving that specific solutions can pass a certain amount of nominal surge current, can handle short circuit overload conditions, and also react in a safe way to continuous abnormal overvoltage conditions. The applications that follow this standard include Photovoltaic applications, outdoor LED Lighting, motor control, IT equipment, and many more applications.
