White Paper: Shielding RF Components at the Package Level

Because OEMs want to introduce products into the market quickly, common platforms are used to reduce development time; but predicting interference between different designs is difficult. Electromagnetic shielding is necessary in RF/mW applications, but a retrofitted customer-level shield is costly. If the shield is integral to the design, however, the product is more efficient, cheaper, and faster to produce. This paper surveys shielding techniques, contrasting their performance and manufacturing efficiency.
