2023 IDEA Awards: Communication Nominees

July 18, 2023

The global MIPI A-PHY standard is an asymmetric SerDes interface that provides high-performance links between automotive image sensors and displays and their associated electronic control units (ECUs). Leveraging MIPI A-PHY, Valens Semiconductor’s VA7000 chipset provides multi-gig asymmetric connectivity and is designed to extend CSI-2-based sensors such as cameras, LiDAR, radar and more.

Microchip PIC32CX-BZ2

Microchip’s PIC32 family is a mixed bag of processor architectures brought together by a unified IDE and peripheral set. To most embedded developers who write their code in C or C++, this family looks to be a single platform supported by the MPLAB Harmony V3 framework, which handles multiple communication protocols that the chips work with. The PCI32CX-BZ2, the newest addition to the family, is based on a 64-MHz, Arm Cortex-M4F

Morse Micro MM61xx SoC Family

The IEEE 802.11ah Wi-Fi HaLow standard defines a sub-1-GHz implementation of Wi-Fi that provides longer operating range while sacrificing throughput. Morse Micro’s MM61xx family is designed to provide low-power, Wi-Fi HaLow support to a host using an SPI/SDIO interface. The MM6104 works with single streams up to 15 Mb/s while the MM6108 can handle data rates up to 32.5 Mb/s. Both interact with the host using an SPI/SDIO serial interface. They have options for UART and I2C communication plus GPIO and PWM support as well.
