MEMtronics was incorporated in Texas in 2001 with the aim of commercializing MEMS (microelectromechanical systems) for RF applications at microwave and millimeter-wave frequencies. Many years were spent on the development of MEMS switching technology for high-frequency applications such as phase shifters and tunable filters. Over time, the cost and difficulty of manufacturing MEMS devices for RF applications proved a difficult barrier to the widespread deployment of the technology at microwave frequencies and above.
During a time when defense electronics technology is strong, the industry readies itself for the global adoption of 5G and electronically steered vehicles.
High-frequency MEMS and MMICs are key components in helping to miniaturize RF/microwave circuit designs, even though they function in completely different ways.
