PMC/XMC Card Holds Transceiver
The model 7158 data converter is a full-function transceiver module housed in a PMC/XMC format. Ideal for military and COTS applications including wideband radar countermeasures, tracking, and UAV surveillance activities, it is a dual-channel, 12-b, 500-MHz-sampling-rate data converter based on two Virtex-5 field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) from Xilinx. Using Pentek's GateFlow FPGA Design Kit, customers can develop and integrate custom intellectual property (IP) solutions to support a wide range of real-time applications for communications, signal intelligence, beamforming, and radar countermeasures. The assembly includes a total of 512 MB of DDR2 SDRAM memory arranged in two banks that enables users to capture real-time data. Optionally, the total SDRAM capacity can be doubled to 1 GB. The 7158 is supported with the ReadyFlow Board Support Package under Windows, Linux, and VxWorks operating systems. Each BSP includes an OS driver as well as a full-feature ReadyFlow C language library to support all board functions and provide sample applications for quick development startup. The 7158 is also available as a PCI module (model 7658), as a 3U and 6U cPCI module (models 7258 and 7358, respectively), and as a PCI Express module.

Mezzanine Card Makes Connections
Model XMC-660 is a commercial-off-theshelf (COTS) multi-function mezzanine card that combines wireless, GPS, and cryptography to deliver portable, secure inthe- field wireless connectivity. It is ideal for quickly and easily adding high-performance trusted wireless communications to VME, VPX, and CompactPCI embedded for applications that include luggable computers, manpacks, and secure laptop computers. The XMC-660 mezzanine card is based on the VITA 42 XMC standard and combines support for Wi-Fi 802.11n/a/b/g communications, ZigBee 802.15 asset tracking, and GPS location services on a single plug-in mezzanine card. It typically dissipates only 7 W power and also requires only a +5-VDC supply from the base card. The XMC-660 then generates all of its own necessary voltages. The XMC-660 features a dual-band MIMO 2T3R chipset with PCI interface. The chipset consists of two highly integrated RF and baseband/MAC IC modules that are fully compliant with the IEEE 802.11n draft specification, as well as IEEE 802.11 a/b/g standards that operate in the 2.5- and 5-GHz bands. The GPS module includes a 20-channel receiver with better than -159 dBm sensitivity via an on-board low-noise amplifier (LNA).

X-Band Synthesizer Slices Phase Noise
Model SYN152 is an X-band direct frequency synthesizer/ upconverter that multiplies input signals by two, three, four, and seventeen to produce output signals at L-band. It accepts UHF input signals at -6 dBm and delivers L-band output signals with as much as +4 dBm power. It provides selectable L-band output ports with fast LVTTL switching and harmonics of only -65 dBc. The phase noise ranges from -129 dBc/Hz offset 10 Hz from the carrier to -148 dBc/Hz offset 1 MHz from the carrier. The compact hermetic unit measures just 5.46 x 3.74 x 0.41 in. and is ideal for airborne applications.

SPDT Switch Runs DC To 18 GHz
Model 401U-2308 is a single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) switch that provides reliable failsafe switching from DC to 18 GHz. It is rated for 5 million switching operations without hot switching. The RoHScompliant switch exhibits 15 ms maximum switching time and is supplied with SMA female connectors. Designed for fail-safe switching, the bidirectional switch is rated for operating temperatures from -25 to +65C and operates with +28 VDC coil voltage. The electromechanical switch is currently available.

Amplifier Drives 34.0 To 34.5 GHz
Model L3434-40 is solid-state amplifier that generates 10 W output power from 34.0 to 34.5 GHz with better than 45 dB gain. It is also available over narrow bandwidths from 31 to 39 GHz in a package measuring 3.80 x 4.81 x 0.65 in., and can also be supplied in a rack-mount enclosure. It uses K input connectors and WR-28 waveguide outputs, with a DC supply of 17 A at +12 VDC.

Waveguide Switches Reach 18 GHz
The latest generation of waveguide transfer switches are considerably lighter than their predecessors, with lower current consumption. The switches are available in WR-62, WR-75, WR-90, and WR-112 waveguide sizes with frequencies of 12.4-18.0 GHz, 10.0-15.0 GHz, 8.20-12.4 GHz, and 7.05-10.0 GHz, respectively. They are offered in a latching self-cutoff operating model with a design life of 200,000 switching cycles. They can operate in extreme environments with temperatures ranging from -54 to +85 C making them suitable for both ground-based and airborne applications. They are equipped with indicator circuitry with transient suppression diodes and two different flange types, cover flange and choke flange. All four models draw 350 mA, about 65 percent less current than previous models. As an example of the weight reduction, the new WR-112 model has been reduced to 500 g, or 53 percent lighter than the previous WR-112 model.

Lowpass Filter Screens To 65 GHz
Model CLPF30-9 is a Chebyshev-style lowpass filter that passes signals to 36 GHz with less than 1.5 dB insertion loss. The rejection of unwanted signals at 40 GHz is 30 dB and greaterthan 40 dB at frequencies from 42 to 65 GHz. This filter can be used to suppress harmonics of multiplied frequency sources or to reject the image frequency of an upconverter or downconverter. This series of filters is available with a variety of cutoff frequencies to 50 GHz.

SPDT Switch Targets IFF Band
Model HPSW2-006016RN 5NNF is a wideband, high power single-pole, double- throw (SPDT) switch designed for use in the Identify Friend or Foe (IFF) band of 1015 to 1105 MHz. It has 0.33 dB insertion loss across the band with 1.07:1 VSWR. It can be used from 600 to 1600 MHz but with somewhat degraded performance. The switch can handle altitudes to 70,000 ft. and temperatures from -55 to +91C. It is tested with a 3.5-kW, 35-micro- second pulse at 1.6-percent duty cycle and high altitude and into a sliding load representing a 3.0:1 VSWR.

Amp Modules Drive ECM Systems
Models HMC-C074 and the HMC-C075 are power amplifier modules for use from 10 MHz to 6 GHz. The former provides 13 dB gain across the frequency range with +29 dBm output power at 1-dB compression with 450 mA current consumption from a +15-VDC voltage supply. The latter yields 24 dB gain and +29.5 dBm output power at 1-dB compression from a +28-VDC voltage supply with 740 mA current consumption. The gain flatness is within ?0.5 dB for both modules. Integrated voltage regulators allow for flexible biasing of both the negative and positive supply pins, while internal bias sequencing circuitry allows robust operation.

Satcom Terminal Endures Harsh Use
The Hughes 9350 BGAN mobile satellite terminal has been developed for vehicular applications in the most demanding environments and provides connectivity to 400 kb/s. It is fully typeapproved for operation over Inmarsat's Broadband Global Area Network (BGAN) satellite service. It enables multiple users to send and receive Internet Protocol (IP) packet data via Ethernet, Universal Serial Bus (USB), and wireless- local-area-network (WLAN) interfaces in a land-vehicular application. In parallel with the packet data services, the terminal supports circuit-switched RJ-11 voice or FAX calls and full ISDN support. Installed and ready for use in minutes, the Hughes 9350 offers selectable Quality of Service levels that enables streaming data to co-exist with other services. That allows end users, such as first responders and other field personnel, to collaborate with staff back at headquarters, using video, voice, and data simultaneously.
