A line of Anaren Integrated Radio (AIR) modules has been developed by Anaren working with Texas Instruments as a member of the TI Developer Network. The modules, which cover bands of 400 to 450 MHz (model A1101R04C), 868 MHz (model A1101R08C), 902 to 028 MHz (models A1101R09A and A1101R09C), and 2400 to 2483.5 MHz (models A2500R24A and A2500R24C), are FCC Part 15 and Industry Canada RSS-210 compliant. They are supplied in two sizes: 9 x 12 x 2.5 mm and 9 x 16 x 2.5 mm. Development kits are also available. According to Mark Bowyer, the Anaren Wireless Group business development manager responsible for the AIR family, "Our research indicated that an electronics engineer looking to bring basic radio capability to any microprocessor-based device required extensive RF knowledge, which many E-OEMs simply do not focus on," he says. "Compounding matters, traditional RF modules come with embedded microprocessors and oftentimes unnecessary pre-programmed software that doesn't fit many of our customers' applications."
