Point-to-point communications and fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) applications require amplifiers with broad bandwidths at high frequencies. The new model AMMC/P-6333 linear power amplifier from Avago Technologies is designed for those applications, with high gain and efficient operation from 18 to 33 GHz. The broadband amplifier provides 20 dB gain from 18 to 33 GHz with +23 dBm output power at 1-dB compression. It features wide dynamic range, with a third-order intercept point of +30 dBm, and is matched to 50 ohms at input and output ports.

Available in bare die form (as model AMMC-6333) or in a 5 x 5 mm surface-mount package (as model AMMP-6333), the broadband amplifier is fabricated with the firm's quarter-micron enhancement-mode GaAs pseudomorphic-high-electron-mobility-transistor (PHEMT) process. It draws only 220 mA current from a +5-VDC supply. P&A: $13.20 each (chip) and $19.80 each (package)(100 to 999 qty.).
