Model ADF4158 from Analog Devices is a 6.1-GHz fractional-N frequency synthesizer with modulation and waveform generation capability ideal for use in frequency-modulated, continuous-wave (FMCW) radar systems. It consists of a low-noise digital phase frequency detector (PFD), a precision charge pump, and a programmable reference divider. It also includes a sigma-delta-based fractional interpolator to allow programmable fractional-N division. The synthesizer can execute frequency-shift-keying (FSK) and phase-shift-keying (PSK) modulation. It employs a simple three-wire interface to control on-chip registers and can operate from +2.7 to +3.3 V supplies. The synthesizer is supplied in a 4 x 4 mm LFCSP package and prices at $4.88 each per 1000 quantity.
