Ulrich L. Rohde, Chairman of Synergy Microwave (Paterson, NJ), board member of Ansoft Corporation (Pittsburgh, PA), and partner of the Munich-based global test-and-measurement manufacturer Rohde & Schwarz. Dr. Rohde has been appointed by the German government (Board of Supervisors) of the Innovation for High Performance (IHP) Microelektronics group within the Intitut fuer Microelektronik. Rohde, who holds a professorship for RF and microwave circuitry within the University of Cottbus, was awarded the honor by Dr. Helm (Chairman of the Board) during the July 14th meeting of the Board of Supervisors, effective August 1, 2003. Rohde will work with members of the IHP (Franfurt-Oder, Germany), which is Germany's largest government-owned silicon-germanium (SiGe) foundry, on the development of next-generation, high-performance RF and microwave integrated circuits. SiGe is a semiconductor process that leverages many of the low cost benefits of conventional silicon processing with the electron mobility of more expensive semiconductor materials, such as gallium arsenide (GaAs) and indium phosphide (InP). The IHP Advisory Board boasts some of the leading researchers from Germany and Switzerland, including Gunter Zimmer of the Fraunhofer Institut fur Microelektronische Schaltungen und Systeme (Duisburg, Germany), Dr. Ing. Jurgen Arndt of Atmel (Heilbronn, Germany), Prof. Dr. Ignaz Eisele of the Institut fuer Physik der Fakultat fur Elektroteknik und Informationstechnik der Universitat der Bundeswehr Munich, Germany), and Prof. Dr. Christian Enz of CSEM (Neuchatel, Switzerland).
