Rockwell, QinetiQ Team on New GNSS Receivers

QinetiQ and Rockwell Collins have entered into a global alliance agreement for the development of next-generation GNSS receivers.

QinetiQ and Rockwell Collins have signed a global alliance agreement to collaborate on the development of next-generation global navigation satellite system (GNSS) receivers. The two companies will blend their respective skills in designing and producing  multi-constellation-open-service (MCOS) GNSS receivers that meet the critical mission needs of military and government users (see figure). QinetiQ has established standards for low size, weight, and power in GPS receivers, while Rockwell Collins has established itself as a leading supplier of secure military GPS receivers. The intent of the agreement is to develop a family of receivers with the flexibility to provide different levels of GNSS capabilities to fit operational, geographical, or budgetary requirements.

“As we move into the era of multi-constellation satellite receivers,” said Andy Thorp, group business development director for QinetiQ, “this market leading agreement—and the investment that sits behind it—sends a clear message to our customers and shareholders that QinetiQ and Rockwell Collins are taking every step necessary to stay at the forefront of GNSS technical development and product delivery. The development will be centered in Europe, led from the UK, supporting the global market.”
