GaN Amplifiers Offer Flexible Voltage Operation

Oct. 3, 2014
By supporting a wide bandwidth range, MACOM’s gallium-nitride (GaN) hybrid amplifiers and power pallet can deliver multifunction system capabilities.

Two S-band, high-power hybrid amplifiers along with a power pallet—MACOM’s latest GaN-based devices—will target commercial air traffic control, weather radar, and military radar applications. The 30- and 85-W hybrid GaN amplifiers, as well as by the 350-W aluminum-based pallet, support wide bandwidths to enable multifunction system capabilities and broad, dynamic frequency operation for complex waveforms. The devices are built to maximize power and cooling efficiency, providing robust performance over a wide range of input voltages. Their flexible voltage operation equips system operators to meet targeted power requirements and manage the total system’s power budget while maintaining efficiency and RF performance. Calculated mean-time-to-failure (MTTF) at 200°C is approximately 600 years, ensuring reliability in tough environmental conditions.
