An SMT planar-style chip design has been designed with temperature compensation to maintain stable performance over temperature. EMC Technology's AN7 attenuator is available in designs of 1 through 6 dB in 1-dB increments with temperature attenuation coefficients (TCA) of -0.003 through -0.009 dB/dB/C and an operating temperature range of -55 to +125C. The attenuator handles 100 mW of input power while requiring no bias or control voltages. In addition, it generates zero distortion. The chip measures 0.080 x 0.050 in. It is suitable for high-volume, pick-and-place, and telecommunications and WiMAX applications.
