SiGe Semiconductor Powers WiMAX Terminals

SiGe has released a rugged power amplifier aimed at the mobile WiMAX market. The model SE7262L amplifier delivers +25.5 dBm output power with more than 20-percent efficiency from 2.5 to 2.7 GHz while exceeding the spectral mask requirements outlined in the IEEE 802.16e and WiMAX Forum specifications. The amplifier, which is designed for +3.3-VDC operation, features ports matched to 50 ohms and an integrated step attenuator. It provides 34-dB gain and is supplied in a RoHS-compliant package measuring just 4 x 4 x 0.9 mm.

The SE7262L amplifier is ideal for use in battery-powered application, such as in Universal-Serial-Bus (USB) accessories for laptop computers. According to Sanjiv Shah, director of product marketing for WiMAX and embedded products at SiGe Semiconductor, "We have worked closely with our customers to develop this product, and early customer feedback confirms that the SE7262L meets spectral mask requirements while achieving industry-leading output power and high power-added efficiency." The SE7262L is well behaved over a wide temperature range of -40 to +85C and sells for $2.85 in 10,000 quantities. Evaluation boards are also available.
