The intelligence community (IC) processes substantial amounts of data from a variety of fixed, mobile, and body-worn sensors, and the amount of data is expected to grow exponentially. And analysis requires recording the raw data at high speeds.
For that mission, Ampex Data Systems introduced the latest member of its TuffServ digital recorder line, the TuffServ Recorder/Server-X (TRS-X), which is capable of consistently and reliably capturing multiple 100-Gb/s data streams. Based on the latest analog-to-digital recorder (ADR) technology, the TRS-X is designed and produced according to the latest reduced size, weight, and power (SWaP) requirements to fit the tightest spaces for data-recording subsystems.
The advanced recorder consists of a 2U-high, 19-in. rack-mount enclosure (see image above) and 1U remote server tool (RST) based on an open system with flexible architecture that has room for growth. It can be equipped with as much as 1.5 Tb of DDR4 solid-state memory and enlists the computing power of Intel’s third-generation Xeon scalable microprocessors. Network interfaces include NVIDIA CX-5 or accelerators based on field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) for each channel.
The digital recorder’s open system integrates commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware for reduced costs and runs on standard software, such as Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) operating-system (OS) software.
As a follow-up, the company working on a cost-optimized SWaP (SWaP-C) version of the digital recorder well-suited for space-constrained applications in remotely piloted aircraft (RPA).
