A new family of fourth-order, tubular Bessel lowpass filters (LPFs) are the product of both computer-aided design and tubular construction. The LBT-1 series filters are available with 3-dB cutoffs from 1 to 22 GHz. They promise to maintain excellent group-delay characteristics with reasonable rejection while extending the company's 3-dB cutoff at data rates approaching 30 Gb/s. The LPFs are designed for an impedance of 50 with an average power rating of 2 W. Filters are grouped in three ranges: 1 to 4, 4 to 10, and 10 to 22 GHz. The former two groups use male and female SMA connectors while the latter group uses male and female K (2.92) connectors. The LBT-14000, for example, has a 3-dB point of 14 GHz and a 1-dB point at 0.6 center frequency of 8.4 GHz with variations controlled to 0.4 dB. The maximum overall length for the LBT-14000 is 1.25 in. These filters meet MIL-E-5400, Class 1A environmental standards except for their operating-temperature range of 55 to +85C. According to the company, the filters are designed for use in lightwave receivers rather than pulsed applications.
