Amplifiers Aid CATV and FTTP

Nov. 12, 2012
Three high-gain amplifiers serve cable-television (CATV) and fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) applications.

A trio of integrated-circuit (IC) amplifiers have been unleashed by TriQuint Semiconductor for cable-television (CATV) and fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) applications. Model TAT3814 is a return-path amplifier which supports DOCSIS channel bonding. It provides 36-dB gain and 4.5-dB noise figure from 5 to 300 MHz with +24 dBm output power at 1-dB compression. It features a 0-to-20-dB variable-gain control and achieves output third-order-intercept (IP3) point of +40 dBm. The return-path amplifier, which is supplied in a 40-pin 6x6 mm surface-mount package, draws 325 mA from a +8-VDC supply. Model TAT2801 is a power-doubler amplifier with 11-dB gain from 40 to 1000 MHz. It boasts +31 dBm output power at 1-dB compression with output IP3 of +53 dBm. It has -70 dBc composite second-order distortion. The amplifier is supplied in a 16-pin package and draws 550 mA from a +12-VDC supply. Finally, model TAT8801A1H is a power doubler with 11-dB gain from 40 to 1000 MHz. It provides +29-dBm output power at 1-dB compression with an output IP3 of +52 dBm. It also draws 500 mA at +12 VDC.
