The WiMedia Alliance has certified Alereon's AL5000 ultrawideband (UWB) platform has one of the first silicon products for WiMedia's UWB Common Radio Platform. The certification assures interoperability of AL5000 devices with other WiMedia-compliant platforms. The AL5300/Al5100 chips cover the entire WiMedia spectrum from 3.1 to 10.3 GHz and are suitable for both PC host and embedded applications, including mobile and handheld electronic products. The chips have been previously tested in an 11 x 14 mm module for throughput as high as 200 Mb/s using low-power UWB signals. According to Eric Broockman, CEO of Alereon, "This is yet another significant milestone as we continue to work with the WiMedia Alliance in driving the growth of the UWB and Certified Wireless USB market."
