Wireless Vibration Sensing System Allows for Remote Monitoring of Industrial Systems

June 6, 2013
Analog Devices has introduced a wireless vibration sensing system that allows for remote monitoring of industrial systems to improve system performance and reduce maintenance costs.

A wireless vibration sensing system allows for remote monitoring of production equipment, to improve system performance and reduce maintenance costs.

The system, introduced by Analog Devices, Inc. (ADI), includesthe firm’s model ADIS16229 iSensor® wireless vibration sensor node which uses frequency-domain and time-domain signal processing in combination with dual-axis digital micro-electro mechanical-systems (MEMS) technology. It also includes the model ADIS16000 gateway node, which supports as many as six ADIS16229 sensors simultaneously through an SPI interface.

The ADIS16229 features a  resonant frequency of 5.5 kHz, a sample rates to 20 kSamples/s, programmable cycle times and alarms at six spectral bands and two levels, a dual-axis, ±18-g MEMS accelerometer, and  single-supply operation from +3.0  to +3.6 VDC.

The wireless function enables the monitoring of equipment in hard-to-reach or dangerous locations and is simple enough to install into an existing infrastructure. The vibration sensors can continually monitor machine tools, turbines, pumps, compressors, and various other equipment, returning   real-time operational data. The fast Fourier transform (FFT) record storage system provides the capability to track changes over time as well.
