Unifying IoT Protocols and Frameworks with Matter

Oct. 31, 2024
Learn more about Matter and how it provides a bridge between different IoT networks and protocols.

IoT protocols are numerous. They are often wed to particular applications, implementations, companies or organizations but they typically need to coexist with other protocols.

Matter was created as a bridge between various protocols to allow a switch in one environment to turn on a light controlled by another. In theory, it allows a single application to control multiple devices with different heritage in a seamless fashion. The Connectivity Standards Alliance is organization that manages Matter.

We covered protocols like Zigbee and Thread that can be part of a Matter network. This TechXchange collects Matter-related TechXchanges that contain articles, videos and podcasts covering Matter from different perspectives. You can also search for Matter articles on this site.

Here is the list of curated Matter topics. All the TechXchanges are updated as new articles on a topic are added to the site.

I earned a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology and a Masters in Computer Science from Rutgers University. I still do a bit of programming using everything from C and C++ to Rust and Ada/SPARK. I do a bit of PHP programming for Drupal websites. I have posted a few Drupal modules.

I still get a hand on software and electronic hardware. Some of this can be found on our Kit Close-Up video series. You can also see me on many of our TechXchange Talk videos. I am interested in a range of projects from robotics to artificial intelligence.
