Filtronic Supplies SSPAs for SpaceX Starlink LEOS

Aug. 20, 2024
The SpaceX LEOS constellation relies on robust SSPA modules to boost millimeter-wave signals from 60 to 90 GHz.

As part of its strategic partnership with SpaceX, Filtronic announced an order valued at $9 million for its E-band (60 to 90 GHz) solid-state power-amplifier (SSPA) modules. The amplifiers will boost millimeter-wave signals within the SpaceX Starlink constellation of low-Earth-orbit satellites (LEOS) to provide high-speed, low-latency internet access around the world, including areas lacking terrestrial infrastructure (see image above).

The amplifier modules are suitable for commercial and military use in airborne and nonterrestrial systems, meeting challenging goals for reduced size, weight, and power (SWaP).

Commenting on the partnership, which was established in April 2024, Nat Edington, CEO at Filtronic, noted, “We are delighted to receive this further order from our partner, SpaceX, as we continue to support the rollout of the Starlink constellation.” Concerning this latest order, he added, “The order demonstrates the continued significant role we are playing in helping SpaceX achieve their mission and will continue to do so over the next five years.”
