Empower RF Systems’ Model 2217 offers sophisticated monitoring, protection, and control functions to mission-critical applications. This air-cooled, 8-kW, 20% duty-cycle pulse amplifier system brings intelligence to the table thanks to a flexible software and embedded firmware design that can be customized to add mission support capabilities specific to the user’s integrated system. Remote control and monitoring are included.
The 2217 is a broadband amplifier that operates in the C-band from 5200 to 5900 MHz. It comprises a class-AB design based on multiple GaN on SiC output devices that provide wide frequency response, high gain, high peak-power capability, and low distortion. The system is built of multi-drawer integrated subsystems that produce a minimum output of 8 kW peak pulsed power and is capable of instantaneous pulse operation over the operating band.
Model 2217 is based on the company’s next-generation architecture that is tactically deployed on range and operating in support of critical DoD missions. It comes complete with internal directional coupler, external forward and reverse sample ports, and an easy-to-use web GUI. In-depth health monitoring with alarms visible on the front panel are also pushed out via the LAN port. For critical “on-air” applications, the 2217 provides “graceful output-power degradation,” backing down power to a safe operating level in the event of component failure or excessive load VSWR condition.
