R&D Effort to Develop Next-Gen Cybersecurity Software for 5G, 6G Networks

Feb. 7, 2023
A cooperative project between ipoque and the Chemnitz University of Technology is focused on crafting a software solution to heighten cybersecurity in 5G and 6G communication networks.

What you’ll learn:

  • The importance of cybersecurity and digital sovereignty.
  • An effort to improve the software infrastructure to make it more secure.

Addressing the need for advanced cybersecurity and improved digital sovereignty, ipoque, a Rohde & Schwarz company, along with Chemnitz University of Technology, are collaborating on a research project for better cybersecurity and digital sovereignty solutions. The project leverages ipoque’s expertise in deep packet inspection (DPI), and centers around protection against distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) and jamming attacks.

This is related to the call for proposals from the German Federal Office for Information Security, titled "Cybersecurity and digital sovereignty in 5G and 6G communication technologies," with a focus on creating a system to enable providers to securely operate mobile networks. ipoque applied in cooperation with the Chair of Communication Networks (Dr.-Ing Thomas Bauschert) and the Chair of Communications Engineering (Prof. Dr. Klaus Mößner) from Chemnitz University of Technology.

The project is using ipoque’s DPI engines, the R&SPACE 2 and R&SvPACE, to identify and classify thousands of applications and protocols to extract metadata in real-time, even if encrypted or obfuscated. The R&SGSRM module enables mobile networking solution providers to filter, forward, and load-balance subscriber-specific GTP sessions.
