Vector Network Analyzer Brings Versatility to Testbenches

Jan. 31, 2020
Handling frequencies to 1.5 GHz, Teledyne LeCroy’s cost-effective T3VNA1500 VNA also takes on spectrum-analysis chores.

With the launch of its T3VNA1500 vector network analyzer (VNA), Teledyne LeCroy extends its Teledyne Test Tools (T3) line of test equipment to include a cost-effective VNA that spans a frequency range of 10 MHz to 1.5 GHz. The instrument’s utility is further enhanced by spectrum-analysis capabilities within the range of 9 kHz to 1.5 GHz. The T3 portfolio brings an array of affordable test equipment within the reach of engineers, developers, and technical schools.

In addition to VNA and spectrum-analysis modes, the T3VNA1500 provides a distance-to-fault option as well as a calibration and utility kit, providing more application coverage within a single instrument. A −156-dBm/Hz displayed average noise level (typical) means the T3VNA1500 can view and measure very small signals. Meanwhile, with typical phase noise at 1 GHz of −98 dBc/Hz with a 10-kHz offset, the instrument delivers highly accurate measurement results.

Optional enhancements to the instrument’s measurement capabilities include:

  • An EMI pre-compliance test kit that adds EMI receiver measurements following CISPR 16-1-1, an IEC standard specifying the characteristics and performance of equipment measuring RF disturbances.
  • A digital-modulation analysis function covering ASK, FSK, MSK, PSK, and QAM.
  • An analog-modulation analysis function covering AM and FM.

With a 10.1-in., 1024×600 display and an intuitive menu system, the lightweight, small-footprint T3VNA1500 makes it easy for users to begin making measurements. The front panel features an accessible help system if the need arises.

Base price for the T3VNA1500 vector network analyzer is $5799.

I am Executive Editor of Microwaves & RF, an all-digital publication that broadly covers all aspects of wireless communications. More particularly, we're keeping a close eye on technologies in the consumer-oriented 5G, 6G, IoT, M2M, and V2X markets, in which much of the wireless market's growth will occur in this decade and beyond. I work with a great team of editors to provide engineers, developers, and technical managers with interesting and useful articles and videos on a regular basis.
