Advanced VSG and More RF Test Gear from R&S

Nov. 12, 2024
Check out Rohde & Schwarz’s latest vector signal generator and over-the-air (OTA) test chamber.

What you’ll learn:

  • What’s new with the SMW200A vector signal generator?
  • Functionality provided by the Integrated Record, Analysis, Playback System (IRAPS).
  • Features of the ATS1800C over-the-air (OTA) test chamber.

I recently talked with Wally Arceneaux, Industry Segment Manager at Rohde & Schwarz, about a number of products, including the R&S SMW200A vector signal generator (VSG), at IMS 2024 (watch the video above).

The SMW200A (Fig. 1) handles frequencies up to 67 GHz and 44 GHz in dual-path mode. It has a bandwidth of 2 GHz and supports all major digital communications standards plus advanced GNSS and radar simulation. It can handle fading with up to 800-MHz bandwidth and up to 8×8 MIMO configurations.

The FSWP phase-noise analyzer and VCO tester comes into play when dealing with phase noise common in wireless applications (Fig. 2). It’s designed to measure amplitude, phase, and residual phase noise. It can also provide signal and spectrum analysis support. It operates in a frequency range from 1 MHz up to 50 GHz. This can be extended to 325 GHz using external mixers.

Another item on display was the IRAPS Integrated Record, Analysis, Playback System (Fig. 3) that comes in a standard 19-in. rack. It incorporates hardware like the Erisys SigPro data-capture system, SMW200A, and an FSW spectrum analyzer. The system is able to capture up to six hours with a 1-GHz bandwidth. Dual 17.3-in. monitors provide access to the GUI and presentation of recorded results.

The small-footprint, ATS1800C over-the-air (OTA) Test Chamber targets 5G NR (New Radio) and mobile far-field testing (Fig. 4). The anechoic chamber offers a compact antenna test range (CATR). The CATR shielded chamber contains a feed antenna, a bidirectional parabolic reflector with a high precision surface, and a 3D positioning system. The base unit can be expanded to provide a larger test chamber.
