Building a Modular RF Testing Solution

Nov. 22, 2024
MilliBox's compact anechoic chamber supports microwave test.

What you’ll learn:

  • What is an RF anechoic chamber?
  • Why a compact, modular MBX0x solution is useful.

Anechoic chambers are environments used to test audio or RF equipment. The term anechoic means "free from echoes and reverberations." It’s essentially a room that prevents echoes. The audio and RF versions are quite different, although they tend to look similar since one prevents audio echoes while the other prevents reflection of radio waves, typically microwaves. The latter is critical for RF compliance testing.

Large anechoic RF chambers allow for testing of large devices and antenna. However, these days, compact devices like smartphones and access points are being tested. leading to more compact solutions like MilliBox's MBX0x Compact Anechoic Chamber (see figure).

I talked with Jean Marc Laurent, VP of Engineering at MilliBox, about the company’s modular MBX0x anechoic chamber (watch the video above).
